Sixty-five years ago, at the age of eighteen, Martin Luther King, Jr., wrote a short paper for his college newspaper on “the purpose of education.” (The Maroon Tiger, Morehouse College, January–February 1947). We need many villages …
Yes, it will take many “villages” to move us beyond the constraints and narrow definitions of achievement and success currently assigned to American educational policies and mandated practices in our classrooms and schools.

In a July 19th education article in the New York Times, Alan Schwarz detailed a chilling report showing extraordinarily high numbers of student suspensions and expulsions in Texas. The report was recently released by the nonpartisan Justice Center at the Council of State Governments.
